I need help gathering the hardware and software for a LAN server, for around 10-20 people connecting to play video games. Any and all responses can and will help.
P.S. The budget is about $2000 for all of it, but i would like to save some money.

If you are going above a gig of bandwidth you have massive issue you will increase your costs outrageously. Part of the reason a actual server costs so much money is they are using processors and chipset designed to deliver traffic at higher rates.

The server is likely not going to be network bound. Most time the disk subsystem will stop you before you hit a ethernet limitation. This is impossible to even predict you need to go to the site that markets the game and see what they recommend.
Way to general a question. All you need is a 24 port 10/100/1000 switch which you can easily find for $300.

Why would you need a server unless you plan to host some game on the server itself. That question would be better asked in a forum related to that game. There are so many difference in requirement including which OS it runs that it is impossible to even guess.

Yes i do plan on running the game from the server directly. The modified PC will be the server, but I do not know what equipment will need. Would i need any PCI adapter or can i use a Ethernet port from a motherboard?
