Do chipsets make a difference in performance? Help is much needed.

I'm looking at two different fm2+ motherboards and they're nearly identical in every way except one is a 78 chipset, and the other a 88 chipset. They're both gaming motherboards that support overclocking. So is there any reason to buy one over the other?

Chipsets are more about features. Find a chipset that has as many of the features you want as possible and as few of the one's you don't care about. Obviously budget comes into play as well.

As a general answer, unless you are saving a ton, best to stay with the newest. For example, is there any reason to buy a 2015 vehicle over a 2012 ? The newer chipset will have latest features, support the latest hardware and have driver support longer.
