Best possible upgrade?

Hey guys! I've been into pc gaming for about a year and a half. My initial build was: 970a-g46, 500 watt psu, 8gb of ram, gtx r9 270x, and a fx-6300. After a couple months, I decided to make an upgrade. I then bought: another r9 270x, a 250gb SSD, an aftermarket CPU fan (to OC because i wanted to avoid bottlenecking to the best extent), and a 750 watt psu to power the new equipment.
So my current build is:
MB- AMD 970a-g46
GPU- 2x r9 270x
RAM- 2x 4gb (8gb)
CPU- fx-6300
PSU- 750 bronze cert.

The problem is, lately, I have been disappointed with my systems performance (maybe it's just my inner enthusiast :p). I ultimately want to transfer to a NVIDIA gpu set up, but am torn between a gtx 960 or a r9 280x. With this upgrade, I also want to purchase a new MB and CPU (preferably intel). I don't want to spend more than $550 if possible. What i want to know is: what is the best upgrade path for my situation? You can suggest other GPU's besides the gtx 960 and r9 270x, and also some MB and CPU's to run together.
All suggestions are highly appreciated!
Thank you very much!

The FX-6300 is a great entry level CPU but if you want to have enthusiast grade performance you're gonna need enthusiast grade parts. Intel makes faster processors per core, therefore I recommend buying a quad-core i5 or i7 and a Z97 motherboard. If you're just looking to change out your GPU's then you're in a tough spot, the crossfire 270xes are only beaten by a single 780ti (I don't know about how it holds against the 900 series), so you might end up sacrificing some performance if you switched to a single NVIDIA card. Not to say that switching to NVIDIA is a bad thing, NVIDIA cards are great quality and operate much cooler than AMD products, that said I still think that a 900 SLI upgrade is your best bet even though it is waaaay...

Bang for buck: Intel CPU and Z97 Motherboard.

Okay, thank you!
I have a question though, if i were to only upgrade my MB and CPU to those suggested products, will I have a significant increase in performance? (so essentially, am I being extremely bottlenecked?)

I will reiterate that the FX-6300 is not to be laughed at, but if any bottleneck were occurring it would be the 6300 bottlenecking your graphics cards right now. Upgrading the CPU and MOBO will definately increase your performance.
