CPU Red Light After New GPU Install.

Hi all

Is it possible for that to happened?

I've tried every trick in the book but my pc still wont post.

This all happen after a new gpu was install.

I used a pc test kit with a 01 error.

A brand new cpu.

Unplugged one by one.

Tighten and loosen cpu cooler.

Flashed and reset cmos.

If so, why would you replace the CPU?

(okay a "red light" but which light and what does it mean?)

Common sense suggests it's a defective graphics card, so I'd start there. If your system worked before use whatever setup you had there (different card or your iGPU).

Hi thanks for the replies.

Mobo is a sabertooth 990fx r2.

The gpu yes looks like a problem but why would the old working one not work as well? Just trying to find out.

The cpu had a red light error and from past experience when installing a new one all works.

Also used a debug tool which said something about a 01 problem a bios and cpu flags etc it mention in the booklet.

1) Well, you didn't say you tested a different graphics card before.

2) So to be clear...
a) Your system worked.
b) You changed the graphics card.
c) Your system didn't work.
d) You swapped back to the old graphics card to test and now your system STILL does not work?

3) Did you do anything to the MOTHERBOARD possibly to damage it?

4) *So I guess it sounds like a MOTHERBOARD or CPU issue. Not sure why that happened right when a new graphics card was installed. Regardless, at this point you should:

CONTACT TECH SUPPORT FOR THE MOTHERBOARD.
KEEP INFO BRIEF.
PROVIDE BASIC DETAIL INCLUDING LIGHTS, ERROR CODES.

A CPU error doesn't necessarily mean it's the CPU.

Hi photon.

The abc etc part is 100% correct.

To be honest I did slightly knock the cpu cooler though to me not enough to damage it. Looks like it was this though??

The cpu error I think your right which is something I've just learnt being a brand new cpu was put in after the first error and yet the error is still there.

To you that is sound like a mobo problem due to the knock?? Also I'm waiting for one today and if it was say the gpu that caused the problem will the same thing happen again once slotted in??

No beeps also does that mean it is the mobo? I have been told this and seen it many times online and would like a back up confirmation for future reference.
