Front microphone jack isn't working

I've recently rebuilt my rig using a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-GAMING GI WIFI-BK motherboard.

I'm trying to get my headset to work by plugging it into the front headphone and microphone jacks of my PC.

The headphone jack seems to work fine (as do the front USB ports) but the microphone jack gives me nothing. I have checked that the HD Audio plug was correctly connected to the motherboard.

When I look in control panel, it displays the microphone but states that it's "not plugged in". When I view the properties of the microphone in Control Panel, it correctly identifies that it's the front 3,5mm jack.

My drivers appear to be up to date, but when I look at the Sound Blaster Recon 3Di Control Panel, it seems to limit the input options to the Microphone and Line Input jacks at the rear.

I've read that some other manufacturers (Realtek & Asus) need to have "front panel jack detection" unchecked for the microphone to work, but I can't find a corresponding place to do this in either Windows Control Panel or the Sound Blaster equivalent.

Can someone please help me out and let me know how I can fix this problem?

Thanks!

I'd like to, but I don't have another mic. That being said, the headset is brand new and works when inserted into the rear mic jack.

yah if you have to move around your mic jack in the front panel for it to work then it is faulty. My case front panel jack got messed up but the headphone still works. i have to hold my MIC jack down when it's plugged in for it to work.

If you had your mic plugged into the front panel and you accidentally pulled on your headphone wire too hard or like tripped over the wire causing it to pull hard 1 way while it is plugged in it can damage the jacks.

I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if this was the case - I've never used the front microphone jack before and this is the first time I've used a headset (I only opened the box on Saturday), so I'm pretty sure I haven't broken the jack.

if you are hooking it up in the front of the case and the mic is not working like lets say you test it in TS3 and it doesn't work then for sure the case mic jack is faulty. Hook it up to the back of the motherboard to see if it works too. and if it does then it's the case.

Sorry for the dull question - but I assume that TS3 is TeamSpeak 3?
