Hi guys, first time poster here, go easy please.

I'd really appreciate some advice on what is going on with my 980 strix edition. I bought it about a week ago to replace my 660ti and I've been having issues with how hot it's getting. I bought the card specifically because it prided itself on being cool and quiet, however at the moment its neither of those things. What I'm not sure of though is whether it is down to external parameters, my case, other hardware etc. or whether it's the card itself.

Most bench marking temps. seem to put the card at around 69-71 Celsius under load, but mine will easily reach that and go beyond that playing GTA V with the fans spinning around 75% at 74,75,76 degrees. It seems to ramp itself up and up and up until eventually I just close the game because it's crazy loud and crazy hot.

I don't know whether it's my card or possibly my case? I only have one intake fan at the front and one exhaust fan at the rear but I do have the option to put some side fans in, would an extra exhaust fan help with the cooling?

My specs are as follows:
Windows 7
i5-3570k running at 4.3
Cooler master evo CPU cooler
ASUS STRIX GTX 980
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 ram
ASUS P8Z77-V LX Motherboard
1 TB Hard drive
600w Corsair PSU
CIT vantage blue midi mesh gaming case.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated, if any more info is needed just let me know...

Thanks all

Solution
Usually I would say replace the thermal paste on the GPU, but as its so new you could try RMAing it for another one. It shouldnt be loud.

I bought the thing pre-built (please don't shoot me) and it never had fans there to begin with. Another input would create positive airflow would it not? I thought negative was better for stuff that gives off a lot of heat? I'm just thinking out loud here...

Around 21'c, yeh I'm fairly sure I caught it hitting 79, 80 at one point though. One of the reasons I bought the card was because of how quiet it was supposed to be, the thing is, is that when its hitting those high temps the fans are spinning at 75-80% which seems incredibly unusual. From what most people have said normally under load the fans only spin at 20-25%. I've had to create a custom fan curve which does explain the high fan speeds but otherwise I just cannot keep the temps. normal.
