Sorry that you are facing some issues with your drive.
I think that all of this is file format related.
You can go to Disk Management and see what is the format of your drive. After that, you can check whether your TV supports that format.
Most of the times, TVs support FAT32 but not NTFS(as most probably your drive is formatted to). If this is the case, you can just take all of your data off the drive -> reformat it -> move it back to the drive.
It will not hurt to test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool as well:

In case there is something wrong with it, you need to back up the data stored on the drive.
