I have a brand new My Passport ULtra 2Tb WD external drive. My computer recognizes it fine and I can read and write to it. Whren I put a TV show(s) on it and hook it up to my TV USB port, the TV does not see it? I have a regular WD My passport that works just fine both ways?

Solution
Hi there Rreed10579,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your drive. :(
I think that all of this is file format related.

You can go to Disk Management and see what is the format of your drive. After that, you can check whether your TV supports that format.
Most of the times, TVs support FAT32 but not NTFS(as most probably your drive is formatted to). If this is the case, you can just take all of your data off the drive -> reformat it -> move it back to the drive.

It will not hurt to test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool as well: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=fTXeDV
In case there is something wrong with it, you need to back up the data stored on the drive.

Let me know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)

Sorry I hit the wrong button.
Problem still exists. I have another my passport WD drive and is also NTFS and works fine with my TV USB..by the way it's a. LG 55 inch 3d flat screen LED.
My passport Ultra like I said works just fine with my Windows HP laptop! I ran the WD Smart diagnostics tool, disk check and even de fragged it, all successfully from my laptop.
Still my LG a TV USB won't recognize it?

This is strange.

Do you connect the drives to the same USB port? Try using the cable of the drive that works fine and connect the one that is not being recognized.
Is the drive spinning up? In case you have more than one USB port on the TV, then I guess you can use Y-type of USB cable. This way you will see whether the issue is power related.

Cheers,
