I've had d-link and linksys standard consumer grade routers, but they tend to work for a year or so then become flakey and require more and more frequent router reboots, I'm looking for something that'll work reliably 'for ever'... should I be looking at business class? or "enterprise grade" or ... what's the lingo for "give me something reliable even if i have to pay 150 instead of 30" in router land?

so, a router that doesn't support wifi, then an AP that plugs into it?

WAN bandwidth.... i have xfiniti blast, 50/10 but it's actually just a burst of 50/10 with a steady thruput of like 20/2 down/up

That is how I have my house setup. You can put the router where the cables are and the access point where the wireless devices are. You can optimize for both that way. With your WAN bandwidth, I wouldn't spend too much for the router. If you can get two of the same device, to be your router and AP then even better. The user interface and firmware baselines would be the same. A pair of Asus RT-N56U make a good choice. They are old enough that you can find good used ones on E-Bay.
