I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD My Book and My Passport drives!
I'd, however, ask you to provide us with more details about the issue and the troubleshooting steps you've attempted to fix it. I'd recommend you to check Disk Management in your computer (assuming Windows OS) and see if and how the external devices appear there. Another thing you should definitely try is testing the HDDs' health and SMART status using WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics utility. Make sure you run the QUICK and EXTENDED test from the tool here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Fvge1Z
