Can i change the CPU in the dell inspiron 3847?

Alright so I went to the dell forums and posted this http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/p/19627877/20779442#20779442 im pretty sure I can change it because same socket, same generation of CPU's but what about the CPU fan?

if it is the same generation/socket, it will definitely work 100%.

I have an older dell that the cpu heatsink/fan screws into the case through the fan mounting holes, so either reuse the dell heatsink, or remove the motherboard and cut off those screw holes if your replacement heatsink uses push pins or if it uses a different size screw. Though, that will void the warranty.

But also the dell heatsink Will work with the i5 right? i mean dell did make the same PC i have just with the i5 So basically the answer is use the new cpu, but use the dell heatsink

Yes since dell does not allow overclocking and the i7 4790 has the same TDP 84 watts as the i5, the stock heatsink should work fine. Don't grab a K unless you are getting a new Z series mainboard also.

yes, definitely use the old dell cooler (don't for get to use new thermal paste).
