Power supply has a flashing green led but drive does not power up?

My Western Digital (500gb) external drive connected by USB does not power up. The power supply has a green flashing LED. There is no blue light on the drive. Does anyone think it could be the power supply?

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD External drive. :( Can you please tell me the model of that device though?
I'd also recommend you to go to Disk Management while the drive is connected to the computer and tell me if it appears there. Another thing you should try is connecting it to a different computer and see if it will get properly detected there. Maybe switching the USB port on your computer is also a good idea to try and resolve the connectivity issue. As for your questions: Yes, the source of the issue could be the power supply itself.

Thank you SuperSoph_WD for your fast response, and sorry for the delay in responding.
Under computer my WD external drive did not appear and when connected to another PC - did not recognise th drive. The power supply led flashes green all the time but no disc startup noise and no blue light. One of the units are faulty so I think it's time for me to invest in a new external drive.

I'm truly sorry about your bad experience with this. :( However, I do hope that you've backed up your data from the drive and you've avoided any data loss whatsoever! It seems like the damage might be anywhere - either the HDD itself or the enclosure, but my suspicions are with the fault being in the power supply and thus not being able to give enough power to spin up the drive.
