Something is clearly wrong. Download speed on Wireless 2.70 Mb/s, Upload is 38.0 mb/s

Using a Asus RT-AC66R Router, I am upstairs about 20 ft away. When I first set up comp, it was getting about 30 - 40 mb/s download, but now the past week consistently it ranges from 1.0 to 3.0 mb/s download speed and I can't take it. Help Please.

I have 2, One is the Realtex 8821AE Wireless LAN 802.11 ac PCI-E NIC, the other is the Netgear A6210, went out and bought the netgear one, thinking it may fix the problem, but I get the same results on speed test disabling the network card and using the Netgear one* instead. pay for 50mb/s, through home telecom, they use fiber from the street, comes into office, hard wired into the asus router.

Are you connecting at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz? I've noticed the 2.4 GHz bands on the high-end Asus routers is a bit flaky. In fact I had the exact same issue as you on 2.4 GHz with a RT-AC56U - downloads would be fine, then randomly slow down to around 1 Mbps and stay there until I rebooted the router. But 5 GHz always worked fine. Maybe your phone is connecting at 5 GHz while your desktop is connecting at 2.4 GHz?

For Asus routers, you can try upgrading to the Merlin firmware. It didn't fix the problem on my RT-AC56U but it did help somewhat. All my devices supported 5 GHz so eventually I just turned off the 2.4 GHz radio.

(Edit: Oddly it was only the 2.4 GHz private network which had problems. The 2.4 GHz guest network always worked fine.)

Interesting, i would try enabling/disabling the 5ghz it would make sense. I have a 5ghz capable router here but i never turn it on.

Interesting. So the 5ghz network has a lower signal strength. Three bars compared to four to five on the 2.4 ghz network. What is the Merlin update you're talking about though. I know the Asus has the newest firmware. Upgraded it manually from Asus website. My iPhone is also on the 2.4
