Why do I have large lag spikes on my PC games?

I play many games. League of Legends, H1Z1, Borderlands, and many more Steam games. The problem is that while I play these games, I will have 55-60 FPS on average, but then my computer will randomly drop to 1-30 FPS, then it returns back to normal for ~10 seconds. The lag lasts for ~5 seconds. As you can imagine, playing on 10 FPS is unacceptable. I feel the side of my computer, and it feels warm. Recently I have set up a fan that blows on the side of the computer (not on a vent) just to cool the computer. There is little to no dust inside of the computer.

PC SPECS:
EVGA NVIDIA GTX 750 ti SC 2GB
AMD FX-6350 Six Core 4.20 Ghz
12 GB of RAM

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

I purchased the computer as a whole in the winter of 2012. Since then I have updated the graphics card to what I listed. And the monitor/keyboard if that makes a difference. I have also upgraded the RAM by adding another stick of 8 to a final of 12 GB.

The How to Update button doesnt show how to open the file. It talks about what to do AFTER the file is opened. I cant find anything for free that allows me to open the .30 file.

Method 1:

Save the BIOS files on a device such as USB disk (FAT32 format), hard disk (FAT32 format) and floppy drive.
Press [F2] during POST to get into BIOS setup menu.
Select the utility under [Smart] menu to execute it.

^^^ This is what the button says. I have the BIOS files on my hard disk. Im clueless on what POST is. Do you have anything to help?

you cant have them on your hard drive. You need to have them on a Flash Drive. Reason being is because your HDD is formatted to a NTFS file format (windows format) While you need to have a FAT32 format (removable). So what it is saying is put the BIOS file directly onto the flashdrive, and then with it inserted, hit F2, go to the utility in the bios and select the bios file located on your flashdrive.

I've downloaded the file onto the flash drive. (960VGFX1.30) The flash drive is in the computer currently. Im back from turning off my computer, going to POST, F2, and then the BIOS updated. When I rebooted, the computer had a CMOS Checksum Bad Error. After trying every option to get my computer to start up again, I had to wipe my computer. Welp, my BIOS is still not updated, and now I have LOTS of things to download. I dont know what to do anymore.

You shouldn't have had to wipe anything since bios has nothing to do with software. Usually when you update your bios, it gets reverted to factory settings. With some installations, you have to change a setting in the bios that is like safe boot or cvar to disable. Cmos resets can be done by removing the battery which im sure you tried. I would give the mobo manufacturer a call and say that their bios update didnt work and for them to walk you through it. Because that bios update improves memory performance which will help with stuttering.
