HELP hdd not getting recognized

Help... I am putting my brothers hard drive with windows 8 on and all of his personal files into my laptop that had windows 7 on it (i dont know if that matters). I thought that it would be as simple as just replacing my old hard drive with his but the laptop just says that there is no hard drive plugged in even though i know that is not hte case. Just wanted it to work like his laptop with windows 8 on with all of his files but in my laptop.
Please help out it would be much appreciated.

Hi there kristoferbjarmi,

In case the laptops are different models, the HDD most probably will not boot properly.(or may not boot at all)

This doesn't explain why is the drive not recognized though. Have you checked BIOS? In case it is not recognized by BIOS, it may be a good idea to re seat the drive. If the issue persists, you need to try putting another drive as there may be something with the laptop itself but not the drives.
