Hello,

I'm not much of a poster, but my girlfriend has bitched enough for me to just order what I want, and stop researching, so I'm looking for some help. I play probably 70% FPS games (not competively), but will play all genres

I'm working with a computer that was given to me for free as part of a business deal, through Origin-PC as follows:

Corsair 800D
Corsair AX1200 PSU
Asus Rampage IV Extreme
Intel i7 3930k
32gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3
Corsair Force GT 240GB

For video card, it came with a GTX 690, but due to some issues, its currently a GTX 970 MSI Gaming 4G. I'm gaming on a Asus VG278H (don't really use the 3D...) but I do enjoy the fluidity of 120hz.

I'm looking to switch to a higher resolution (1440p or 4k), So I'm looking at monitors first. I'm kinda torn between splurging $800 for a XB270 HU (for 1440p), or maybe a XB280HK (for 4k), or saving money by going with a Korean Monitor, the Crossover 2795 (1440p) and see if we can overclock it to at least 96hz.

It looks like with my GTX 970, playing most games at 1440p with higher settings would be possible, but definitely not at 4k.

My first thought was to just purchase the XB270HU, and call it good with what I can get.
However, with the savings cost between the XB270HU and Crossover 2795, I could buy a second 970, purchase a 980TI, or a 295x2. But when I think about upgrading to a 980 TI or a 295x2, I wonder if I should aim for a 4k monitor too, or try to make use of the 144hz of the XB270HU. I have no real preference on manufacturers, I've just used Nvidia the last few cards. I was hoping to get some advice on what others would do in this exact situation.

If it were me, I would buy a Korean 1440p screen with a good OC reputation and a good VESA mount for it. Any defects in the Korean monitors wouldn't be visible while gaming. I believe that the ones using Samsung PLS panels overclock up to 120 Hz. If you need better framerates, you can add a second GTX 970.
Nothing really works well for 4k. I've never tried it personally, but the reviews I've read all say that 4k gaming is just not ready yet. I don't think it's worth trying yet.
