So AMD's new card R9 390 (not the x version) is around the same price as the r9 290x. I was wondering which one is more powerful than the other. Also if you could provide me with other reasons as to which is better. Also off topic but, do you think that there will be a price drop soon within these gpu's? Should I hold out for a little longer?

Looking at the specifications for both the 390 and the 290x, it appears that the GPU of the 390 isn't as fast at the 290x, but it is the reverse when talking about memory speeds, i.e. the memory of the 390 is faster than that of the 290x. Of course there is the total memory difference too--the 390 has 8GB of VRAM as opposed to 4GB--but it's not clear if that itself is an improvement at this time. Note, the link above references a 290x with 8GB of memory, but that's going to cost more than $330.

The review in the link above shows performance comparisons for both the 390 and the 290x (neither being AMD reference cards). It appears that the 390 has a slight advantage. Given that the 390 also has double the memory, which could become a factor in the future, runs slightly cooler and draws a little less power, for the same price you might as well go with the 390.
