I recently picked up a lightly-used Zotac GTX 750ti from a friend. Before replacing my mildly-overclocked XFX Radeon HD 6950, I was a bit worried about the benchmarks as seen here...

However, after installing it and tweaking settings in a variety of games including GTA V, modded Skyrim, and Assasin's Creed IV, I'm getting MUCH better results from the 750ti, and I haven't even overclocked it. GTA got a particular bump, as I wasn't able to do much antialiasing with the 6950. It even surprised me with some light effects which weren't there before -- I'm honestly not even sure what setting caused them. The only thing I took a hit on was post effects, but I pushed textures, grass, etc. way up. I was able to go far over the recommended limits, where I really wasn't able to before. Turned on the riot mode mod... explosions everywhere, and no performance hit.
Is this just because these games jive better with Nvidia? As it happens, I tend to read that's true of most of the games I gravitate toward, but it seems absurd that it would make this big of a difference. What could it be? Just generally newer technology? Nvidia's less convoluted drivers? Was my 6950 burning out? I'm happy with the results but I almost feel like there's some catch I'm missing... ha.
