My AMD 8350 stock fan is like an air conditioner working in the middle of the Saudi Arabian desert. It's just too loud when playing games,

I've heard that the Cooler Master 212 Evo is a great choice, but will it fit my case?

Case - Corsair 200R
CPU - AMD FX-8350 Vishera 32nm Technology
Mobo - Asus M5A97 R2.0
RAM - 8GB Corsair Vengeance LP
GFX - MSI R9 285 Twin Fans
PSU - Corsair VS 550W

I listed the components to take into account dimensions etc.

I'm a complete noobster and I am a bit worried about breaking the insides of my machine when installing the fan, and especially REMOVING the stock fan. Also, do I HAVE to use rubbing alcohol when cleaning off the thermal compound?

Thanks!

Solution

Yeah Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO will...
At pharmacies, if you buy some of the little Prep Pads that doctors and nurses use when giving someone a shot, they come with the alcohol that you want on them, and often you can get them in small packs of 10-20 individually wrapped pads. I've found that 3-4 pads will clean off a CPU beautifully.

Yeah Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO will fit into your case! :D
The height of this cooler is 159mm according to their site.
http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212-evo/
And the maximum height of the CPU Cooler compatible in Corsair Carbide 200R Case is 165mm
http://www.corsair.com/en/carbide-series-200r-compact-atx-case

And about the video for the installing Hyper 212 EVO on AM3+ socket motherboard
Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO4yokgcOY4

Hope it helps ! :D

Hi! I've seen the video before but I'm really confused where to place the fan? D:

Placing the fan on the heat sink? or connecting the fan on the motherboard? or the whole installation process?

Both. I've seen videos where the heatsink can be orientated portrait and landscape, and apparently you can mount the fan anywhere? I'm really confused because in the video the guy had exhaust fans at the top of the case but I don't so he mounted his CPU fan at the bottom of the heatsink to "draw the air through"

If you don't have any fan at the top but you have an exhaust fan at the rear of your case, put the CPU Fan facing your RAM so the heat on your CPU will be pushed on the exhaust fan at the rear .
About the location to connect the fan at the motherboard, look for the CPU Fan header on your motherboard by checking your manual.

Thank you so much. In term of anti-static precautions, I have an anti static wristband however my Corsair 200R case has no unpainted metal surface. Where could I plug in the crocodile clip? (I live in the UK if that helps)

Yeah at least 70% up to 90% of alcohol is recommended! And also paper towel or cofee filter.

That's fab. How long do I need to wait for the CPU to try once the thermal grease is taken off?
Just to check, is this the right fan? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0068OI7T8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

According to the video I saw earlier, you can install the cooler instantly after removing the thermal paste with alcohol on the paper towel or coffee filter and I think it's okay since the alcohol evaporates quickly. Just make sure your CPU is already dry.

Yeah that's it! the Cooler Master 212 EVO

About the anti-static precaution, just wait I'm still researching about it. :D

Thank you so much :D

Just to double check, so I install the heatsink sideways (vertically) and then I place the fan so the air draws from the front of the case to the back of the case exhaust fan right?
