Accidentally changed default for opening files

Having an absolute meltdown here.

I went onto my Windows 7 laptop and tried to open a desktop program. When I did, an error came up asking me which file type I wanted to open the program with, I picked the program itself and forgot to uncheck the box labelled "do this with all programs of this type". Now, almost every single icon on my desktop has been changed to the program I was initially trying to access (Yawcam) and I can't access the Internet because every time I click on the Internet shortcut it comes up with the same stupid error. I had given up hope on trying to fix it and then went to perform a system restore to yesterday (at which point all my icons and files were fine) but I can't even system restore because the same error comes up!

Basically, I think all files of a certain type (note, on my desktop right now, Microsoft word, google chrome, Internet explorer, Skype, etc. have all defaulted to the Yawcam icon and will not open - however iTunes and QuickTime player haven't changed icons and work perfectly fine) are failing to open because they're trying to open via the wrong default file type. I need to be able to reset this so I can access my programs.

Please help me!

MarkM the link you suggested worked, although it was difficult to get it to my laptop. What I mean is I couldn't actually access the website on my laptop to download the files because I couldn't launch IE or GoogleChrome, so I had to use another laptop and then transfer the file via USB. But then when I plugged the USB into my laptop it wouldn't launch to show me what files were in the USB, I kept getting the same error. So I ended up going into devices, right clicking the USB, hovering over browse files, then clicked on the USB and that worked and I was able to drag the file onto my desktop from there. Thank you!
