Upgrading Low End Laptop Worth it?

Hi there my girlfriend has this laptop

Its not great she had had it a short time she does course work on it but it stutters even on basic things all windows 8.1 updates are installed also would removing the 4gb stick and adding a 8GB 1333MHZ help i'm also wondering if its worth putting in a cheap 64gb SSD to help performance the CPU is not great so anything that's worth it please :)

The ssd is a good route to go but like it was also said you have a 200 dollar laptop and the cost of a ssd and mem would exceed the value of the unit. Yes you can get sales on ssd drives 120 go for about 69 bucks here in the states and 240 are on and off sales for 89 bucks.

Thanks everyone for the replies i checked windows and it doesnt even use all the 4GB installed now so i will leave the ram upgrade i can get a SANDISK Ultra II 2.5" Internal SSD - 120 GB for £47,00 i think i will just clone this drive and be done with it should help the responsiveness on windows and make everything for her a bit snappier thanks the the replies :)
