Intel vs AMD cpu for gaming

I am looking to get a new cpu, but i cant decide if i want a
i3 4170 or a AMD FX 6300.
AMD seems to have more cores but on the other hand the i3 seems to have better performance even with less cores....

I usually play games like Planetside or Fallout, and i also use photoshop and premiere a lot....
So i want sth that is good for those things

The i3 4170 is a great CPU and will play those games fine, but it'll struggle with photoshop and premiere unless you're patient and that's where the FX are better in. But the upgrade path is there and i5 and i7's lasts for years once you upgrade to them. The FX 6300 is already sitting behind an i3 4160 in most performance categories and you won't get much better than that if you go up to an FX 8xxx or FX 9xxx (don't bother with FX 9xxx).
