Would my current system specs bottleneck a GTX 980 Ti/Titan X?

Like a total idiot, I purchased a pre-configured PC. I know now that I should've build my own, but I was too worried I'd break something. Still, I managed to install a Cooler Master 212 Evo, with an extra SSD (custom drilled bracket), with a 3.5 3TB drive, and I honestly thought I'd of broken it.
I apologize for the repeated questions in a similar fashion here on the forums, but I'm having trouble deciding on a build that supports 1440p/4K, and as I'm on a budget, maybe it's not such a wise decision at all.

Case : Galaxy Evolution Tower Case (ATX)
Power Supply : Aerocool 850W VP Pro
Motherboard: Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 REV 6.0 x1 PCI x16 slot
CPU: AMD FX 6300 Six Core CPU (turbo 4.1Ghz)
Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600mhz Transcend memory 2x8gb sticks
Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 970 4GB (3.5GB in effect)

With a 212 evo heatsink, I've managed to overclock the CPU to 4.5GHz before, and it could probably go to 5GHz with watercooling, but it's a big maybe. I'm not sure the motherboard has the ability to regulate that much power, and the PSU is tier 4...

So my question is: would my current PC manage a single GTX 980 Ti for 1440p gaming without a bottleneck, or would I have to purchase another motherboard, and would it be better to purchase an Intel compatible board instead of another AMD?

The motherboard I have in mind is the Maximus VII Ranger, and the CPU is an Intel 4790K.
Some users have said the socket LGA 1150 is becoming outdated. Is this true? DDR3 is supposedly fazing out now, also, so maybe it would be better to futureproof to a DDR4 build? It's very expensive, that's the main issue. I'm kinda on a budget. I already have the current rig which I can sell various parts, like the GTX 970, the motherboard/CPU, and the RAM, but I've also been told that a dual 970 SLI will cope with 1440p fine, only, my motherboard has 1x PCI x16 slot, so I might as well move to another motherboard, and with that, over to Intel.
If I'm to upgrade, I've got this PSU in mind - 850W XFX XXX, Hybrid Modular, 80PLUS Bronze, 1x135mm, ATX psu.

I'd much rather sell the 970 and get a 980 Ti, then eventually SLI with another and go from 1440p to 4K in the future, so I've also planned out the monitor to be a 1440p 27" 60Hz monitor, but G-Sync monitors are a lot more expensive. There is also this monitor which is a G-Sync 4K 144Hz

however, it's said that 4K on a 28" isn't even that much of a worthy difference, only if you were to 4K on a bigger screen it would be worth it.

Here is the 1440p monitor: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281724647871?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
The switch to 4K is said not to be worth it, but from 1080p to 1440p it is...

What do you guys think? Thanks again!

Maybe it would be. I see no advantage to have a i7 in a gaming rig unless you are streaming and doing multiple other things at the same time. It will have little advantage over the i5. If you want a more budget non overclocking CPU get a Xeon 1231 v3 and for a mobo Gigabyte Gaming 5 is your best bet. :)

The Xeon is roughly 10 dollars more than the i5-4690k and it does not allow overclocking but it has 4 more cores. Like the i7 just without the overclocking ability and a higher price tag.

1st its not 3.5 gb ram in effect of a gtx 970 its just slower to get access to the last 500mb, anyways yeah i think your cpu might be bottlenecking even your 970 not sure on that but a 980 ti and better will be probably bottlenecked

Your current card is fine. If you are looking to upgrade I would upgrade to a i5 and add a SLI over changing to a 980 ti.
The XFX PSU is pretty good but I would look at a G2 from EVGA or a XFX XTR. As they both are gold rated and fully modular.

The PSU is the first thing I would upgrade. Look at getting a 750w-850w if you do go with a 980 ti. Look at a 750w if you do upgrade to a i5/i7 with a 770 SLI.

Would an i7 4790 be overkill?
I'm probably going to go for the 980 Ti (future SLI), so I'll purchase the EVGA G2 750w PSU. Thanks for the recommendation, that's an awesome PSU, and for the price. Thanks!
