e5430 vs i3 2100 vs i5 2400

The e5430 is essentially a Core2Quad. It was a fine chip, but it's quite old now. You would have to get an old server or professional workstation to get one.
It really comes down to what your budget is. If you can get the e5430 for free or very cheap, it could be very inexpensive to upgrade into a cheap gaming rig. Of course the i5 will perform much better and is should still be fairly inexpensive.
You should be considering a lot of other factors for gaming: is the Power Supply able to handle a Graphics Card (GPU)? Does the pc come with a GPU or will you purchase one separately? Does the case even have room for upgrades?

actually i can get a cheap 5430 complete pc system . Siimilar price is an i3 2100 system. Add just a little bit more you can get an i5 2400 system. Every system comes with 4gb ram /320gb hdd/normal psu/low level gpu GT 210. Aiming for a better separate gpu/psu (750ti at least, or equivalent) in the future. The thing that bothers me is whether e5430 is far far behind i5 2400 in term of gaming performance?

The e5430 is equivalent to a Core2Quad Q9450 or very similar to a Q6600. It will be quite a bit behind the i5. It probably uses DDR2 RAM. I would guess that the e5430 system would probably come with a bigger PSU and more room to expand.
