Hey guys.

I have an extra desktop laying around, it's a Dell Precision T3500 and I plan on using it for a home server / media center (if that's possible) alongside my current desktop. If it's not possible then just a home server. I prefer to use a Linux server but if anyone recommends Windows server for something like this, I may consider it.

What I'm also going to be doing is putting a new router extender in my office since the signal is pretty bad and hook up my current desktop along with my home server media center to it which will be the T3500.

Tried making diagram for better understanding but can't use continuous..

I want a server and media center in one because I already have an XBMC media center running off my spare laptop all the time when I'm working on my desktop and have always been looking to put together a server for accessing files across all my computers.

I mainly am asking if it's possible or normal to run XBMC on a Linux or Windows Server and if so, what do you recommend for pulling it off?

Your "Extender" - is this WiFi, or wired?

Anyway - you don't need second router for your office, it could be either Access Point (if the connection is wired), or "Client Bridge" (for wireless). Some routers can be configured to work in all three modes.
