Hello to those experienced and willing to help!

Just built my first PC two weeks ago. Things went great for a week, didn't add ridiculous amounts or any problematic software - and out of the blue I am having to hard start my PC twice to get my SSD, USB ports and GPU to boot collectively.

Here are my specs:
Operating System Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU AMD FX-6300 26 °C Vishera 32nm Technology
RAM 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
PSU 650 Watt Coba CS-650 IT Non-Modular 80+ Bronze
Motherboard ASRock 970 Extreme4 (CPUSocket) 35 °C
Display LG FULL HD (1920x1080@60Hz)
GPU 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (NVIDIA) 30 °C
Storage (OS) 232GB Crucial_ CT250MX200SSD1 SATA Disk Device (SSD) 32 °C
931GB Seagate ST1000DM 000-9TS15E SATA Disk Device (SATA) 34 °C
931GB Seagate ST1000DM 003-1ER162 SATA Disk Device (SATA) 31 °C
Optical Drives HL-DT-ST DVDROM DH18NS60 ATA Device
Audio Realtek High Definition Audio

OS was installed on my SSD no problem. Everything is new except for the external. Had an old 1TB Seagate external that I ripped out of its portable DC case and plugged that in - also no issue. Haven't tampered with BIOS (other than to restrict my fans from being full on all the time), and to check boot order was correct.

Windows updated properly except for 3 hotfixes that I can't seem to find or don't apply to my machine. All drivers were updated, but the motherboard itself had mostly bloatware on offer in the download section of their site - but I installed them anyway as a precaution.

So people, before I start filling out RMA's, does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Just to be clear, when the system runs it doesn't skip a beat - no BSOD's, games can be played for hours on end with high settings no problem, movies work fine, sound too, can access my all my drives without any issue and nothing seems to be bugging the system. One thing I have noticed though is that my keyboard and mouse settings return to default when I restart - so something relating to the USB ports could be either interfering with the system as a whole - but that seems like a long-shot to me. I've also considered that I only installed 5 of the 8 spacer mounts for the motherboard, so 40% less earthing could be the problem? The CMOS battery has been removed ONCE when I played with my AMD OC settings when I was feeling adventurous - which I'm not anymore after that panic attack.

I am grateful in advance for any credible assistance!

Best regards

I found the solution. All Asrock mobo's have a debug LCD at the bottom right of the board. When you boot your system leave your side panel off and see if a code is persistently showing (e.g 36 in my case, which related to reseating the ram and removing the CMOS battery for 30 seconds). Normally the mobo will cycle through and show a bunch of codes briefly on startup, but then it should show " - -" as the OS starts booting.

Here is the debug code list from Asrock: http://www.asrock.com/support/faq.asp?id=334

Who knew Ram could stop all these systems from booting eh?!

Good luck to those also new to the world of building their own PC!
