Hi. I'm about to buy a new desktop for gaming and about to buy a 1440p monitor to go with it and I don't know which is better to run on that kind of monitor.. I'm not sure whether or not to go with an i7 4790k GTX 960 with 2GB allocated RAM, or i7 4790 GTX 960 with 4GB allocated RAM.. Help?

Solution
Sli is multiple gpus. All the 980 are sli capable. Vram is not stacked so you still have 4gb vram with multiple 980s.

Thank you! So.. the "K" just means you can overclock it? Does overclocking mean you make the CPU run faster in GHz, or does it improve the framerate by a little?

"Cheapest i3 is 120 bucks."

Lol.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-4160 3.6GHz Dual-Core Processor ($108.95 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $108.95
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

i3 Also has hyper-threading, which gives it 4 threads, like the i5. Except the i3 has 2 threads per core and the i5 has 1 thread per core. So they both have 4 threads in total.

Meanwhile, the Pentium doesn't have hyper-threading. And overclocking the processor is time consuming, as you need to test it's stability overnight. The processor will also get more hot and it's life will shorten. Plus, it also voids your warranty.

The i3 already guarantees you have good speed and all, with the normal life expectancy. It's also better at multitasking.

And the cooler is 31 bucks including shipping. Hyper 212, I assume.

Oh yeah, one more thing.

If you want to overclock you must have an unlocked processor (like the i5 & i7 K processors) as well as a Z87 or Z97 motherboard.

Congrats for finding one for 10 bucks less from crap website. If you think ocing pc is time consuming then you should by prebuilt pcs from best buy or something. Cause testing overnight is so time consuming. And unless you going for 5 ghz with 1.45 v 24/7 your cpu life is not gonna shorten. Ocing is fun.
Also you don't need k cpus or z boards to oc. You can do it on h81 board just fine

First off, you need to download a special BIOS to overclock on those boards.

And Ocing is fun? Not everyone has the same opinion.

Oh, and SuperBiiz is not "crap".

And why would you put a G3258 in a 1000 dollar build? lmao

Thanks dude! Hey by the way, since you seem to know what you're talking about.. Is a GTX 980 w 4GB of RAM allocated the same thing as GTX 980 SLI? I don't know, I've looked up the SLI version but can't come to a conclusion as many of them say different things about each.
