Hello ,

i have a asrock 980de3/u3s3 motherboard and would like to install another case fan.
The problem is i dont have anymore plugs to connect this case fan.
I have a xfx pro 650w psu and i heard you can connect a fan to that also with a extension chord.
But it will be running constantly at full speed if i connect it through the psu?
Is there a fan controller to adjust this?

Thanks in advance
Detlef

Solution
Yes, you are right on both counts. A fan can connect directly to any large 4 pin Molex connector from the PSU. An adapter may be required. yes, it will run at full RPM when connected that way.
If your case fans have the small 3 pin molex connectors, you can connect 2 to the same motherboard header with a splitter. This splitter works with both 3 pin and 4 pin fan headers, and 3 pin and 4 pin (PWM) fans. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4TZ2SN8399
You'll notice one pin is missing from one of the male connectors. That is so only one fan provides tach feedback for more accurate speed control and monitoring with 3 pin fans.
