So I'm going to upgrade my CPU from an AMD Athlon X4 740 Quad Core 3.2 GHz to a AMD A-Series A10-6800K 4,1 GHz.

Will it work with my grapics card? or is an intel processor the way to go?

Solution
FX-6300 won't work; that's a Socket AM3+ CPU, & those Athlon X4/A-series APUs are Socket FM2+. Completely incompatible, you'd have to get a new motherboard.

That being said...the FX would be a better CPU, but again you'd have to buy a new motherboard, then backup your data & reinstall Windows.

FX isn't worth it and like you said, it's a dead end. Frankly, since you have a discrete card already, save some money and just jump to the 860K. It's as good or beats the APU and the FX in most things and it's cheaper than both.
