This is an issue with my other PC, so I'll start by listing the specs:

CPU: Pentium E2160 @ 1.8 ghz
Integrated Graphics: Intel G31/G33 Express Chipset Family, or Intel GMA 3100,(Not GMA X3100)
RAM: 2GB, unkown speed
Motherboard: Standard Optiplex 330 Motherboard
PSU: Unknown
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

During the sales at Steam I got a lot of games, and before everyone starts saying my PC wasn't meant for gaming, the games I got were mostly 2D flash games, that I easily met or surpassed the requirements of. Anyways, the issue is that a lot of the games wont start at all! I launch the game (I've tried launching the exe file, the shortcut, and from Steam, same result) and it shows the Steam Preparing to launch message for a second, then it vanishes and nothing happens. If I view it in task manager you can see the process just vanishes. This issue happens with 4 different games so far, but each happens in a slightly different way. 2 of them happen as previously described, but the other just instantly shows a Windows error message saying the game stopped working, and the last one just flashes the screen like it's going into full screen, but nothing happens. Please help! I've searched everywhere for help, but nothing works!

Games:
Detour: Windows game has stopped working message
BEEP: Flashes screen as if going into full screen, nothing happens
Murder Miners: Steam preparing to launch message for a second, then nothing happens
DLC Quest: Steam preparing to launch message for a second, then nothing happens

Just from looking at them, you barely meet the requirements of most of them. Taking your system RAM usage off your available RAM, doesnt leave your g31 enough memory to run those games.

And I know what I'm talking about with this thing, up until i built my sig rig I was gaming on the g31/33 chipset for 4-5 years.

That doesn't explain why games won't launch, I mean even a game like Team Fortress 2 launches (not that it's very playable) but it does launch, why won't these games open???? I'd at least like DLC Quest and Detour to work.

It really does... TF2 refused to launch for me using the e3200 cpu, 3 years newer than yours.
HL2 would launch but tpose models and rainbows textures.

Dont starve just stopped launching after an update made it too demanding to run.

Try taking a look at your memory usage and watch what it does when attempting to launch.

Mine used to ping to 100% usage as the game took over what was left, then crash back to normal because the game couldnt fit in the ram without getting overcrowded by windows processes. I'd say your's is doing similar as mine was doing it with 3gb RAM.

Don't Starve Together launches and plays perfectly, yet something like Detour with less requirement doesn't launch. I just don't understand.

It runs fine too, that's why I don't understand the other games not launching. Is there anyway to get them to launch?

eurgh as a work around you can attempt looking at the launch ini files for each games, see if you can force them to launch in a lower res and detail.

If they launch / progress further then you know its a hardware defficiency.

Hmm, planning on recycling a Vostro 200 with almost identical specs...if that's any indication....

That said, there's a good change that it's memory related. considering I was running out of memory just running Windows Update and installing said updates. Chances are that Windows itself is using anywhere from 750ish MB to 1.5GB, leaving next to nothing for whatever you are trying to open and run. I would imagine CPU usage is much the same thing. That's hardly a multitasking machine. It can run itself and maybe do one other thing, probably not well or quickly, and that's about it. I know Civ V wouldn't run despite meeting the requirements.

Would downgrading to Windows XP help?
