Are my CPU temps ok?

Evening all,

Lurker for years but 1st time writer.

I need your opinions on my CPU temps. Im upgrading my graphics on a 4 year old system so I wanted to check on my cooling. It hasn't been touched since I built it.

CPU temp in BIOS is 45°c. CPU with core temp app is 54°c while idling. 89°c under stress test.
GPU is 56°c while idle. System temp is 32°c. Set up below.

i5 2500k overclocked to 4.4ghz cooled by an Arctic freezer 13
MSI Twin Frozr II HD6870
Fractal Design R3 with 2 stock case fans. 1 front in, 1 rear out.

I have an XFX 850 PSU (non modular) so with its many thick wires it could be blocking the lonely fan upfront. Iv ordered a couple of case fans to improve air flow but with it not being touched over the last 4 years I could have some other issues. Thermal paste degraded? Dust? I can fix these if needs be but without a frame of reference I really don't know.

So I would appreciate your opinions.

Cheers

Hi Miga,

Thanks for the input, I had a quick look at the heatsink and ran my finger across the grills. There was a small amount of dust and a bit on the fan itself. Iv ordered a couple of those air dusters, they should arrive today along with the case fans.

I hope its dust or air flow but all things being well what would be a good idle, load and stress temp for this setup? I was thinking around arouns 30°c. Could just dust or airflow cause it to be 25°c higher than normal? The ambient temp of where it is housed is around 25°c.

Im hoping its not the thermal paste degrading, how often does it need to be re-applied? Im not so good with that stuff, im sure iv still got some under my finger nails from 4 years ago! haha

So just the deep clean caused a drop of 10°c to around 45°c. After installing the extra case fans it dropped a further 5°c to settle at around 40°c.

I haven't done any stress tests yet, ill follow up with that later.

Its still a bit higher than I would have liked but I cant argue with a drop in temp of 25% for 20 mins work.
