Hi all, have just built my first ever PC all up and running, installed all the drivers butthe sound doesn't seem to be working. When I hover over the audio icon it says 'No speakers or headphones are plugged in'.
I have installed the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled, but that didn't work, im wondering if i'm missing something.
The board is an MSI h97 pc mate, could it be a problem with that? thank you for any replies :)

Solution

yep either connect it to the rear or connect the front audio connector to the motherboard if you want to use the front

few things..in the bios under onboard devices make sure the audio chipset is turned on. if you installed the msi sound drivers and the intel chipset drivers check that there no other missing drivers. if there none the green port on the rear is the one for speakers out. under windows sound devices if you have a nvidia and or ati card make sure hdmi sound is not the default output device (you want realtech speakers as default output). if your trying to use the front audio ports make sure the cablke on the right port on the mb and in the audio driver control panel that both ports are set to be on.
