Hi,
I recently got a gtx 970 (msi gaming) and have heard that it oc's really well, i also have an amd fx 8350 with an h60 cooler. I want to get into oc'ing but have head that my motherboard (ga 970a-d3p) is not good for it (vrms or power phases or something), i was wondering what motherboards around 150 Australian dollars (www.mwave.com or www.pccasegear.com) are good for overclocking and what i should be looking for? (id prefer it to have a nice bios interface/utilities as the one i have now has poor software)

Thanks in advance :)

The D3P is not as good as the UD3.

The 970s are not as good (generally) as the 990FX motherboards.

For overclocking.

Not to say you can't OC the CPU at all. You just have to be real conservative with testing OCs and keeping temps low.

no, i have not because ive been told i could risk damaging it due to the motherboards power phases or vrm cooling or something?

i don't think so. as long as you're careful with it, as you should be whenever you overclock anything, you should be fine. you might not get as much performance as you would like, but just keep an eye on your temps and don't overvolt the crap out of your CPU. i wouldn't go and buy a new motherboard just because you heard that it might not perform as well as a high end model.

it is true that a 4+1 power phase and the limited VRM heat sinks could pose a problem if you were after extreme performance, but something moderate like 4.5 GHz i wouldn't worry. keep an eye on your temps like i said though, the motherboard is what can be damaged more easily than the CPU.

this is where you are totally wrong. the motherboard has everything to do with it.

the motherboard shouldn't have any impact on overclocking your GPU. not CPU.
