How do I backup system drive (SSD) only

In my current setup I have a 120gb SSD for OS with a couple games and HDD for all other storage. I will be upgrading my old SSD to a 240gb model and I want to know if its possible to move all my user data from the 120gb to 240gb through my internal or external HDD.

I asked this because all the software (i.e. Paint.NET, Microsoft Office) are stored in the HDD and I am afraid that it will break their directory with a fresh SSD, I don't mind reinstalling the games or OS in the SSD again, just want to move the user data.

Thanks in advance

No, that's not quite right. Installing the OS on the 240GB is useless. The System Image, when applied to the 240, will completely overwrite that new OS install.

All of the current clone/migration tools will do it direct from one drive to the other. Just plug them both in, specify source and Target, hit the Go button.

Use a disc imaging program called like Acronis true image. It creates an entire backup image of that drive and you can install the image file to your new drive as if it is an exact copy of your old drive

1. Do NOT move your /User/ folder. You will break things.

2. When you clone the 120GB drive to the new 240BG drive...it will not break things on the HDD. The new drive will become the C, and see everything as it used to be.
The cloning operation (assuming it goes correctly), is simply making an exact copy, just on a larger drive.

So what does it do? I makes a compressed file out of my old SSD and I just "install" the file into my new drive?

Do I need two drives at the same time to make a clone? Or can I copy the data into my HDD then move it into my new SSD, please provide instructions if possible, I am a noob on this thing

I am going to be using the System Image Backup first, so this is what I am going to do and please correct me if I listed something wrong

Create system image > reformat 120gb ssd > plug in 240gb ssd to sata > install os into 240gb ssd > restore system image
