Hey there, sanjitsidhu76!

Unfortunately, it seems like the file system of your HDD got corrupted. I'd recommend you to turn to a professional data recovery company, since they are your best chance at recovering your collection. I'd also advise you to always keep backups of your most precious data in order to avoid such data loss headaches in the future. Re-formatting is required because you will need to change the file system, so that you'd be able to read/write to the drive. However, the fact that it's unable to be formatted is a bit concerning, so I'd recommend you to download your HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test the drive's health and check up on the SMART status. You should be able to find it on their website.
