Ok so I'm currently looking to upgrade my monitor, I'm currently using a 60Hz PLS panel (overclocked to 70Hz) but I want to get a 144Hz panel for fast paced games and especially CSGO...

However I'm really torn on what to do, I currently have a R9 280X which I know is not a great performer on 1440p and the only freeSync options for gaming are 1440p... So I'm wandering if it would be worth it to get the Benq XL2730Z as I would be banking on FreeSync to give me a smooth experience in games where my 280X can't hold it's own and still get the great 144Hz experience in games like CS...
The other option would be to get a cheaper G-Sync monitor like the AOC g2460Pg, sell my 280X and buy a 970, however this would still cost me more as I can't expect to get that much back from my year old 280X...

Last option would be to just get a plain simple 1080p 144Hz panel with no "sync" at all for alot cheaper and rather live with some stutters and tearing...

what do you think? Right now I'm leaning more towards the freeSync option...

Solution
R9 280X does not support Freesync for gaming. Only R9 295X2, R9 290, R9 290X and R9 285, R7 260X and R7 260 have the dynamic refresh rate for Freesync for the R9 200 series.

Ok so if I were to get a variable refresh rate monitor I would need a new GPU anyway... then I guess the best option is either just a cheaper 144Hz without any sync or a 970 and a cheap Gsync monitor...

BTW what 144Hz 1080p monitor would you recommend for gaming then? I was looking at the BenQ XL2430T which is basically a 24" version of the freesync monitor listed only with a 1080p panel and no freesync... I realy don't want anything bigger than 24" if I'm staying at 1080p...

Yeah I know... my 280X is currently getting me around 350-500fps in CS ans I play on 4:3 stretched, was more worried about games like witcher etc... but as others pointed out my 280X doesn't support FreeSync...
