CPU Sluggish performance

I currently have the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black edition.

Don't get me wrong, I know that the CPU is aging now but I am only getting around 40 FPS with BF4 on medium, is that reasonable?

I have been looking at getting an 8350 but with that also being 'older', I do not want to be buying another processor in a years time.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Specifications:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE - Stock speeds
XFX radeon 7870 - Overclocked
MSI 970A-G46
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz RAM
Games will be ran on a 1080p monitor with a second 1680x1050 monitor for information and skype, etc...
Anything else?

Oh haha. get an aftermarket one then,. The coolermaster hyper 212 plus was only $20 a few days ago.

You can reuse the cooler if you ever upgrade the cpu since it comes with brackets for intel cpu's as well. the fx-8350 uses the same socket so it will be no problem.

I think it's a good investment.
