Help, windows 8.1 won't install on my new hard drive

I came home and put it in the laptop. I then turned it on and got the windows 8.1 DVD disk and put it in. I had it installing and then it said something went wrong and restarted. It turned off my PC and I turned it on and now it won't let me keep installing it. It says"An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system." It won't let me install it if I take it out.

Hi,

You need to start your computer before having the drives connected. You should not need a driver for your hard drive windows should install it on it's own.

Which hard drive did you buy ?

I have a WD mainstream 500gb , also I have the DVD for windows out and the hard drive out so what do I do now?

Go into the BIOS and set the DVD drive as the first boot device, and then when starting it up again, hit a key on the keyboard if it asks to boot to the DVD.

If you are installing a new internal hard drive and removing your old one you need to put your windows 8.1 cd that came with your laptop and install it.
