So I realize that there's not much difference between the two except for future proofing; however, can someone tell me why there are such huge price differences in some of the boards? Like there are some Z97s out there for 180, but then there's one from Asrock (who's reputable) that's only for 99. (base price)

Then there's a Z87 by Asus that's normally 170, but is on sale for 99. Why are the base prices so huge?

Z97 motherboards have SATA express and M.2 capabilities, suports Broadwell CPUs, supports latest 5th generation Intel CPUs, and are better overclockers. If you do not need any of these features, go for the Z87 motherboards. If you are in need of two of the five differences I've listed, then it's worth getting the Z97 motherboards. Honestly, I don't see a huge price difference when I look at Z97 and Z87 motherboards (Or, at least the ones "I" have looked at).
