i have an amd phenom ii x6 1090t with corsair h100i cooling running @ 4ghz.
i'm wondering which i should get....
fx-8350@€190
fx-8370@€224
fx-9370@€220
fx-9590@€255
i know the fx-8 series can be overclocked but is that the same as the fx-9 series?there must be some differences.
i think the 8370 is the newest but not sure does that mean it has newer tech.
thanks for any helpful answers :)

There's almost no difference between the 8350 and 8370. Many are even getting the cheaper 8320 and overclocking it. The 8320/8350/8370/9590 are all the same cpu, slightly higher (better) binned chips used as the numbers go up since amd clocks them faster out of the box. Other than that you're paying amd to do the oc for you. I'd avoid the 9590 like the plague, they're pretty miserable both in heat/power consumption and stability and many people end up trying to underclock them. The performance they have over the 8320/8350 is pretty much nil.
The FX 9XXX series are the same as the 8XXX. The only difference is in clock speed. The 9XXX basically come overclocked: they will still require a good overclocking motherboard and PSU to even run. Many motherboards don't support their very high power draw. You are better off buying the cheaper chip and doing the overclocking yourself.
There is no newer tech in any of the chips. They are all identical except for their stock clock.

I have an asus crosshair formula z and an ocz 1250w gold psu running a r9 295x2 as well. I was thinking that the CPU was letting my rig down a little even at 4ghz the CPU is a little old and I can't decide which CPU I should go with. If I overclock the lesser am I losing out. I read somewhere that the 9series has better hyperthreading capabilities but I'm not sure if that matters or if it's true

thanks and do you think its worth it to upgrade from the phenom ii x6 1090t? i have it running smooth at 4ghz. do you think i'd notice much of an improvement

You will definitely need to overclock if you want to experience better performance than the 1090t at 4GHz. The newer cpus have more cores but they are not as strong as the old Phenom II cores unless they are clocked higher.

Your CPU may be holding your rig back a little, but any AMD cpu will hold you back at least a little without significant overclocking.

If it were me, the performance gains wouldn't be enough to justify the cost and hassle of installing a new CPU. If I really needed the extra performance, I would go with the 8320 and overclock it. If you can hit 4.5 GHz, you may gain a 10-25% FPS boost in games.
