This is my first post, I am almost always able to find my answers about computer questions here by searching. Thank you all for that. I've got a situation that has me a bit frustrated. I am putting together a simple PC for a friend and want to use a GeForce GT740 video card. I cannot get the computer to boot and recognize the card. I've changed the bios settings hoping it would enable the card but no dice. When the machine is set to automatic (or the setting where it can run both on board or outboard graphics simultaneously) the internal video card won't boot either.

Now, out of frustration I tried out my GeForce 210 in this machine and it worked fine. I assume I have a 2.0 PCI express slot, and the 740 says it's compatible. Maybe it really isn't. I am running the recommended 400 (real) watt power supply as well.

Thanks for any input you may have, I greatly appreciate it.

Evan

Dang, sorry I forgot to say that I had the one with the gddr3 which does not have the external power connector. I checked out the link but unfortunately I don't really know what I am looking at as far as what could cause compatibility issues.

When I boot the machine with just the internal graphics enabled on BIOS video comes up from the internal card. When looking at the device manager the video card isn't displayed anywhere as installed either.

I had the same issue (and still do with my GeForce 760), but the only thing I've tried that gave me any success is putting your older slower card in (the one that works). Install directx 11. Then put it your newer card and that should work.
