Alright so I am trying to help out a buddy who has the computer above. However the computers slow 1.8ghz dual core is maxxing out at 1 chrome tab, and is too laggy for playing any games at all. I had read on intels site that the chipset supports a core 2 quad q6600, but from reading an article on the dell forums it sounds like in order to use the core 2 quads, you have to have the mobo that supports the kentsfield, while the one for his computer is conroe. I was wondering if there was a way to make a core 2 quad work in this setup or if we would have to purchase a new mobo and processor. I understand its an older machine, however our budget really cant afford more that $50 at this time. i was eyeing a core 2 quad q6600 on ebay for about $20

There are two motherboards for this unit, one tops out at a Q6700 the other can take a QX6800 "0DN075 Motherboard" both will take a Q6600 without a Bios update.

This is the Last BIOS update
Dell Precision System BIOS, 2.6.0 3 Nov 2011

No new chips were added :/ Dell was never about updating older units they instead want you to buy new or start a new Lease.

A Q6600 and Q67000 will run you $25 or less while a QX6800 cost generally $80. With the stock cooler the Q6600 will run Warmer than normal but should be far from overheating.

I greatly appreciate the information you have given me. If this is true then all should be well. I will wait a day or two to ssee if anyone else posts information, such as first hand experiences. If nothing else shows, then I thank you for your information.

Sorry for late replay, I was quite busy lately, but I did manage to put in a q6600, but it tells me its not supported??? Maybe I just need to update the BIOS, but it seems to be running fine regardless. Thanks guys!
