Safe GPU temp for gtx 970?

I have a gigabyte G1 gaming 970 and I have overclocked it. I want my graphics card to run at a temperature where it wont affect lifespan at all. I have it set to throttle at 70C and i'm wondering if i should lower it. it doesn't go above 68C when running 3Dmark at 1512mhz boost and it performs about as well as a GTX 980.

I have a case with high air flow and it keeps the card really cool and the fans ramp up to max because i don't care about noise when gaming.

I was also wondering if overvolting itself will damage components or if it is the heat that does. Heat is not an issue because i can set max temperature before it throttles.

Ambient temps are about 28C give or take a couple degrees

Thanks for help

you dont need to keep your card at a 70c max. I have my 970 overclocked as well and im getting about the same temps as you do, but I have my threshold at 85c. it never reaches that temp, and its very quiet even under load. anything not in the "above 85c-95c" range is totally fine. your lifespen in not shortened in any cignificant way.
