Is this my CPU causing me to lag or is it my GPU?

I have a HP Pavilion P6240f. The modifications that I did to it we're that I put in a amd 7750 graphics card, and I put in a bigger psu. So, I was wondering if it's either my CPU or GPU or both causing me to lag in games that I want to play such as Rust, Arma 3, DayZ etc. Also I have a low budget i can probably only spend money on either a new motherboard and processor or should i just buy another GPU.

The GPU and Motherboard I was thinking to upgrade -

It's definitely your graphics card. The i5-4440 is a monster.

The HD 7750 is an older GPU from like 2012. It's better than dedicated graphics but you can't expect to play all those games at high settings or 1080p.

If you're looking for an inexpensive budget graphics card then I would have to suggest the GTX 750 ti. I've seen them retail on eBay for about $100.

Or the GTX 660 ti for $110. (eBay)

The Radeon / AMD equivalent would be the Radeon R9 270. They go for about $100, too.

You're not going to get much better than these three cards for less than $100.

Unless you get super lucky and find a 580 or a 680 from a friend or on Craigslist.

Upgrading to an i5 will not improve things much because your GPU is also a major problem for modern games. However you'll find that CPU will not be up to muster if you stick in a decent modern graphics card. You have two realistic choices with a limited budget:

1. Get the i5/motherboard now and plod on with the GPU till you can afford a new one.
2. Get something like a G3258 or Athlon x4 II and buy get something like an R7 265 or GTX 750 ti if your budget allows it. This combo would perform better than your current PC but it wouldn't be a beast.

What resolution do you play at? If it's less than 1080p option 2 might be enough for decent fps.
