Windows 8.1 reinstall & product key problem

Hello guys! I have a pc with windows 8.1 installed, the offcial ones... The store i bought my pc from , gave me a recovery cd which contains only a 4gb file.. it cant be full windows i guess...They didnt gave me a product key...I found my product key with a 3rd party software..Now I want to reinstall windows..Will this product key work, since its the same pc? If not what can i do?

The product key for windows 8.1 is stored in the UEFI firmware. When reinstalling windows 8.1 it should be automatically authorised using this key. if it is not and you key does not work, call up Microsoft and explain what has happened and they should be able to activate it for you.

Great! The reason i want to reinstall windows is because i bought an ssd. Can i use recovery disk and choose where to install windows? To do so do i put the recovery dist in and double click it from my computer and it will give me windows setup? thanks for the support guys :)

Yes just download it and mount it to a usb, but dont run it. However I would suggest that you first use the recovery disk that came with your pc.

This is what I would do:
Dissconect existing HDD (which has your current OS on it)
Connect the new SSD
Boot from the recovery disk / recovery media
Run the programe and you should be able to partition / install to the new SSD

Doing it this way means that if for any reason the recovery media or cd doesnt work and you cant install windows 8.1, you can just plug in your existing hdd and still use your os.

Once you have reinstalled windows 8.1 onto your ssd, restart your pc with your old hdd connected and then copy and files you want from it to your ssd and then reformat your HDD.

Also I should just say make sure you backup
