So it's that time of the year, September is just around the corner, and I'm looking to get a new gpu in order to run all the new titles that are coming out at high end graphics at 60fps on my new LG ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor.

After looking at benchmarks, it seems pretty clear that a single gtx 980ti is the best value for a single card. So my heart is set on that, my only hesitation is whether or not my 2700k is a little bit outdated, and whether or not it is going to make me lose some significant frames.

So if you knowledgeable people could shed some light on my dilemma it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Even if it bottlenecks once in a while, you're going to get better FPS overall from a 980 Ti than with a 980, and better with a 980 than a 970.

I'm in the same boat as you, basically. I've got a 2600k with a GTX 980, but I'm pretty sure with my 4.4 Ghz overclock I'm not hurting on CPU power. If I'm throttling, I don't care because my games run extremely well, and I'm not building a new system until Skylake no matter what. My next GPU will be Pascal.

Bottom line, if you want a 980 Ti because you like how it benches at your preferred settings, then go for it. Your CPU is still pretty boss (Intel hasn't made much progress since Sandy Bridge anyway). Also, you didn't mention whether you had it...
