I have 1 tb external hd of wd. Sometime ago it crashed. I tried recovering partition, and tried data recovery too, but didn't work. Then I gave it to Stellar Data recovery, who charged me Rs. 600 for analysis of hd. I got the analysis report, it says the drive is physically damaged. They also mentioned that recovery maybe possible, given that I sped enoromous sum of Rs. 57,500.
That's like way out of my budget.
Is there anyway I can try recovery at more reasonable cost.
Another thing, the drive is still spinning, and spinning smoothly, so can it be considered physically damaged in the first place?

Yes the needle can be physically damaged inside of it.

You have already exhausted the software options to recover the data, there is nothing else you can do without the specialized equipment of a data recovery center. That is why it is such a high cost is because the machinery they are using costs thousand of dollars.

Another example of mis-use of an external drive. An external drive is a great device to backup data to (as in a second version, a copy, of the same data) or to transport data from Computer A to Computer B. An external drive is a HORRIBLE device to store your only copy of a file. First of all, external drives are lower quality hard drives then what comes in a desktop and laptop, add to that they are far more susceptible to damage since it much easier to knock them off a desk while spinning.
