I accidentally stumbled upon the Sapphire Radeon HD 4850:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102747

and I found that it is available for sale here where I live too. Just like the Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 that I decided to buy, this card has is also single-slot and it also has 512 MB memory and 256-bit. But the thing is that the HD 3870's type of memory is GDDR4 and this HD 4850 has GDDR3. Plus, the engine clock of the HD 3870 is 775 MHZ and the engine clock of the HD 4850 is only 625 MHz.

Still, the HD 3870 was released in 2007, and the HD 4850 in 2008. That, I think, is a plus for the HD 4850, but I cannot be 100% sure. According to this site:

http://www.hwcompare.com/2529/radeon-hd-3870-512mb-vs-radeon-hd-4850-512mb/

the HD 4850 is better. Hmm... I can't understand why, but I assume those people should know better than me, since they tested both cards and I can only speculate theoretically. And according to the people here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/hd4850-vs-hd3870.101247/

and here:

http://www.overclock.net/t/351118/3870-vs-4850

the HD 4850 is better again.

Now I wanna know what you guys think, since I can buy any of these two cards right now and they both have the exact same price. If it helps, the games I intend to play are Need for Speed Most Wanted (the 2005 game, but with all settings on max!), Crysis 1, Assassin's Creed 1, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky, S.TA.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat, Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena, Call of Duty World at War, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 and 2, Dead Space 2, Left 4 Dead and Bioshock.

And all of the above-mentioned games I will play ONLY on 1024x768!

Solution
The 4850 is about a third faster than the 3870, as you can see in the graph below. But yeah, these old cards are rarely worth spending money on.

Those cards are so old i would avoid them. Go for a radeon 7770 or 7850 instead. They are pretty old as well but still new enough to receive proper support for a little longer.

But yes the 4850 is better. That year AMD cards were really good.

I live in Romania, would you still give me the card? :)

I suppose the shipping would cost a lot, wouldn't it...?

And is your card single-slot? Because my PC - Dell Optiplex GX620 - only accepts single-slot graphic cards.

PS: I'm really surprised that you're willing to give me your card for free, since the saying "Nothing's free in this world" is an American saying, isn't it?

Thank you very much anyway, I wish there were more people with a kind heart like you in this world!
