I'm going to be building a new gaming PC for about $850-900 in October. I want to build it myself to save some money. But I also need to get an operating system as well. So that is about $100 less then I can spend on all the parts should I go with the fx 6300 or the fx 4300? I want the 6300. But if I got that then I'd have to go with the gtx 960 4gb model. When if I got the 4300 I could go with the gtx 970. I was also going to get a 650 watt psu just in case if later on I wanted to put the you in sli mode. And a terabyte hard drive and only 4gb of ram because I have 4 gigs just sitting around right now. I also need an optical drive to install windows. Any suggestions I just wasn't sure if the 4300 would still be fine for games or I should go with the 6 core processor because newer games are using more cores. And the case doesn't matter to me. And what would a decent pretty cheap wifi card be also? I have my pc's in my room and the router is in my living room and my family doesn't like wires running throughout the house. And for mouse and keyboard I was just going to get the cooler master devistator mouse and keyboard set.

I know you are a budget gamer like me and has to stay within the budget. 4 higher frequency cores are better than 6 lower frequency cores for gaming and don't worry about the 6 core utilisation, 4 cores will work just fine.
And then you will buy the gtx 970
But all that said a bottleneck will occur as the cpu is a bit lower end.

So, go with FX 6300 combo. and if you want more performance of the cpu, overclock it! :0

EDIT : Found a video, same config ; plays Far Cry 4 at 1080p at Ultra Settings. What more do you need!!!!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eu1YZYzx-js

This. If you can get afford and i5, get an i5. AMD CPUs simply can't keep up at the moment. Honestly, the only AMD CPU (not APUs, which are decent for their uses) I would recommend to anyone, is the low budget builder looking for a quad: 860K.

I was thinking about saving up a few hundred extra and getting the fx 9350. And I'm just not an Intel fan. I5's and i7's are usually a hell of a lot more expensive then amd processors which have more products with more cores for cheaper. My current PC has an i5 in it and I hate it... And you also have to realize that the i7 6 core processors are wayyy more expensive then the amd ones.

That would be a colossal waste of money, time (money) and electricity (money). Core count is not everything as evidenced by AMD's current products, which are spanked by Intels with half as many cores. MOAR CORES!!!!!!!!!! has been a complete, utter failure in the face of Intel building things smarter. Hopefully AMD will learn their lesson with Zen.

Depending on your specs, your current PC might end up being better than the one you intend to build.

No game out uses more than 4 cores and you wont see games using more for many years. With FX Chips overclocked FX6XXX and FX8XXX chips will give you the same FPS which is lower most of the time than a I5 4460.

Since you have time here is a cheap way to get the OS, look for a old Win 7 machine for under $50 once Win 10 comes out you are entitled to a free upgrade at no cost. You can find old business machines using Win 7 Pro at Electronics Recyclers, Thrift Shops, Good Wills, Craigslist and Yard Sales they are everywhere.

Wifi Card, you better off with a Power line Adapter like this, It's better for Gaming if your not running a real high end Modem/Router.

I wouldn't consider SLI on any CPU below a FX-6350 "$102 NewEgg" which you could easily include in that budget. Something to consider, AMD and Intel will be releasing CPU's before October so Price drops on what we have out now should take place as well as normal GPU price drops. You would be better off planning this build in September when you would be close to having your Funds. Memory will also drop a few bucks by then as well as End of the Year savings beginning for most online Retailers. At the moment your not going to find to many sales.

dude! your current pc has an i5 and you are buying a 6300??? What's wrong with you. True, AMD is the way to go for budget gamers but if you already have an i5, don't look back to AMD.
Just buy the 970 and crush some games!!! :p

And instead of Wifi card, I find a usb adapter more convenient and its also cost effective. TP Link gives the best ones. Here's my favourite...I use it too and I've never failed popping heads in Counter Strike. :)

Just out of curiosity, which i5 do you have?
