Hello everyone,

I just bought the Toshiba E45-B4100 notebook today. It seems to have 6GB of DDR3 RAM already installed, but I am not a tech expert whatsoever. I have a few RAM chips from old computers and I was wondering if I could install one of them to upgrade the Toshiba.

The RAM chips are a Samsung 2GB M471B5773CHS-CH9 chip and a Samsung 2GB M470T5663EH3 chip. Would either of those work in this computer? Also, how should I go about upgrading the RAM (do I need safety gloves, etc)?

On another note, I am considering upgrading to a SSD in this computer. Any recommendations?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!

You cannot upgrade the RAM. The RAM you have wouldn't be an upgrade even if you could install it. I believe your particular model has the RAM soldered to the motherboard.

For an SSD, pretty much any 2.5in drive should work. I really like the Samsung 850 Evo drives for price and performance. You don't need to use gloves, but you do need to be reasonably careful.

According to what I've seen online, I should be able to add RAM in this computer. Assuming I am, wouldn't any RAM addition provide some sort of performance boost?

I may not have been looking at the right model: if there are user upgradeable RAM slots, you would need to purchase either a single 4GB SODIMM to upgrade to 8GB or 8GB SODIMMS. Your 2GB sticks wouldn't be an upgrade. The laptop has at most 2 ram slots and both of them are currently filled.
