CS:GO Game freeze/sound stutter - When I unplug my 2nd monitor it seems to be fixed, why?

Title says it all. I've been experiencing these game freeze/audio stutter issues for the past week now, even on an old PC build.

I bought all new parts, save for the SSD/HDD, booted up the PC, freezes and stutter still going on.

I reinstalled Win7 3-4 times, then this last go around installed Win8.1 instead.

I even sent my GTX 970 back to Newegg for a free replacement because I was convinced my new GPU was just as fucked as my old GTX 660.

Now I uninstalled Microsoft's auto-installed High Definition Audio Device drivers, disabled it, and prevented it from auto-installing further. Then I unplugged the HDMI chord from my GPU (which was my 2nd monitor), and moved the on-board audio cable to my main monitor.

So now I'm on one, 144Hz monitor, with only the onboard audio cable plugged in, nothing else. Now CS:GO doesn't seem to stutter at all (so far).

Could a fucked up HDMI chord cause this? Is my monitor messed up? I was also experiencing the "driver crashed but restarted itself" error from time to time on my old build and on Win7, but so far on Win8.1 it hasn't occurred.

Edit: My system never freezes when watching streams, other games never have this specific issue, it's literally only CS:GO and just started happening a few patches ago.

I tried plugging the 2nd monitor back in with the old HDMI chord, and instantly my DPC readings spiked up, but the monitor kept flashing "Out of range, out of range, no signal, etc." So I got a new chord, plugged it into the 2nd monitor, and the same thing happened. So I plugged the HDMI chord into my main monitor and the DVI into my 2nd one, and they instantly displayed my desktop. However, my "reported hard pagefault resolution time" spiked up in the thousands, and my main monitor is 144Hz so I can't have it in HDMI because HDMI does not support 144Hz.

Is this telling me that my 2nd monitor is fucked, at least HDMI-wise?
